The Purpose of Salvation: What Are We Saved For?

  • We are not saved just to go to heaven, but to realize the Kingdom of God on this earth.
  • We must shift our theological question from 'How can I be saved?' to 'What am I saved for?'
  • A Jesus-centered faith leads us to live as ministers of reconciliation in the world.
  • Salvation is not an achievement but a journey of living while cherishing the gift of grace given by God.

The Messiah's Missionary Mission (Isaiah 61)

  • Proclaiming the Gospel: Bringing good news to the poor.
  • Liberation and Healing: Proclaiming liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind.
  • Jubilee Restoration: Proclaiming the year of the Lord's favor to restore relationships.
  • The church's mission is to practice this missionary mandate of Jesus on earth.

The True Meaning of Poverty

  • In the Bible, poverty means not just economic lack, but a state of being incomplete physically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually.
  • We are all 'poor' before God, which is why we need the Gospel.
  • The wholeness (telos) God desires is holistic restoration.
  • The church must practice the values of Jubilee by maintaining social equality and caring for the marginalized.

The Church's Social Responsibility and Reconciliation Ministry

  • The church should not be a place where we stay for only 3 hours a week, but a source of salt and light for 168 hours.
  • I propose that at least 30% of the church budget be invested in community service and activities.
  • Pastors should exist as spiritual leaders of the local community, not just managers of the church.
  • Through unity among churches, we must practically solve the needs of the local community.

Change the Question, Change the World

  • We must stop asking, 'How can our church become the biggest?'
  • We must ponder, 'How can our church become the most needed church for our local community?'
  • When the question changes, thoughts change, ministry methods change, and eventually, the world changes.
  • The church proves its value not by the size of its building, but by its influence on the local community.

Dr. Cho Sang-ik's Testimony: Restoring First Love

  • Despite a successful career as a doctor, there was an emptiness of love in his heart.
  • Through the miscarriage of his first child and hearing the heartbeat of his second, he realized God is the Author of life.
  • He restored his first love through a prayer asking to love people he didn't even know.
  • God gave us love when He created us, and He wants us to serve one another with that love.

Family Conflict and God's Providence

  • Even amidst his father's persecution during childhood, his mother trusted God to the end.
  • His mother's prayers became the strength to choose God without hating his father.
  • The process of a son who gave up on studying entering Sahmyook University was entirely God's guidance.
  • His mother's tearful prayers turned her son's life toward God.

Healing Through the Case of an Anorexic Patient

  • Witnessed an anorexic patient, considered incurable, recover through love and support.
  • Realized there is a way of God that transcends medical treatment.
  • Despite his own inadequacies, God healed the patient.
  • Through this experience, he reaffirmed his mission as a doctor and God's love.

The Longing for Eternity

  • The world sees money and health as conditions for happiness, but the end is emptiness and the tragedy of suicide.
  • Satan makes us forget God and deny our longing for eternity.
  • Through fellowship with friends, he restored his longing for eternal life.
  • God loves us and has given us eternal life as a gift.

Conclusion: Remember the Creator

  • The most terrifying disease in the world is forgetting God.
  • The essence of the health message is not just managing the body, but remembering the Creator.
  • Though we are inadequate, we can become children of light through Jesus Christ.
  • God never abandons us, and His love is still flowing to us today.

Lines Worth Remembering

  • “We are not people living toward salvation, but people living from salvation.”
  • “When the question changes, thoughts change; when thoughts change, methods change; eventually, the world changes.”
  • “The most terrifying disease in the world is forgetting God.”

One-Sentence Takeaway

Our faith should not remain in church traditions but should become a life that practices the ministry of reconciliation in the world, following the Messiah's missionary mandate and testifying to God the Creator.

If You Only Have 2 Minutes

  • The purpose of salvation is not just going to heaven, but realizing the Kingdom of God on earth.
  • The church must be the center of reconciliation ministry that meets the needs of the local community.
  • Poverty means holistic lack, and the church has a responsibility to care for it.
  • Changing the question changes the results of ministry.
  • God created us with love and wants us to share that love with our neighbors.
  • Life comes from God, and He never gives up on us.
  • The essence of the health message is remembering the Creator and sharing His love.
  • Even if we are inadequate, we can live as children of light through Jesus Christ.
